Radio History
Shane Hewitt
My radio journey started in 1996, technically, but it truly started long before that. Drawn to remixing music and playing music really began in about 1990 when I started with my first attempts at remixing music. This lead to DJing, and then pursuing a diploma in live theatre studies as a sound major at Red Deer College (now Red Deer Polytechnic). I was given the opportunity to hang out at Radio 7 (am 700) CKRD with Paul O’Neil at night (Thanks Paulie!) and loved the radio station and operating the console. I was hooked. After DJing around Red Deer to pay for school, I moved to Calgary to DJ there and began my study at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology). I completed 3 of 4 semesters at SAIT in the radio program, before landing my first commercial radio job and then secured my diploma remotely after. And thus began my radio career in Canada.
I have been given many opportunities to guest and contribute to other stations in America and Europe, and this is a basic list of stations I have hosted and guested shows on. This list does not include stations that my mix show The Beatdown and Christmas show Christmas Canada Radio have played on.
